Virgie Belle Tate Hardesty, 73, of Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 18, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport. She was born in Rhoda, VA and lived in Kingsport most of her life. She graduated from Lynn View High School in 1953 and East Tennessee State University in 1957. She earned her Masters Degree from ETSU in 1980. Having been a teacher for over 44 years, her life's work was educating children. Virgie worked as a teacher in Cave Springs, GA, Murfreesboro, TN, and Bardstown, KY, but spent most of her career working in Sullivan County Schools at Cedar Grove, Brookside, and Ketron Middle School as a special education teacher before retiring from the school district. She was also active with the SCEA. Virgie was a member of Vermont United Methodist church where she particularly enjoyed singing in the choir. She was blessed with an enormous reservoir of patience for working with children and loved spending time with them. She never lost her youthful joy in life and was always eager to share it with others. She was preceded in death by her husband, James 'Jim' Hardesty; her parents, Robert H. and Martha Shupe Tate; two sisters, Alberta Bowen and Jewell Blevins, and a brother, James Tate. Surviving are her step-daughter, Anita Coley of KY; step- grandchildren, Angela Smith and Nicholas Coley; three sisters, Ruby Reddick and husband Jim of Knoxville, TN, Merle Tate, and Marie Ketron; three brothers, Kelles Tate and wife Shirley, Paul Tate and wife Lenore, and Dean Tate and wife Louise, all of Kingsport, TN; sister-in-law, Mae Tate of Kingsport, TN; brother in law, Archer M. Blevins of Johnson City, TN; special friends, Norma Hensley, Charlene Clark, and Jim Thayer; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Visiting will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the Vermont United Methodist Church, 1817 Bloomingdale Road, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Bill Cahill and Rev. Jim Dougherty. Musical selections will be performed by Jim Greene accompanied by Jane Harris. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2008 at Tri-City Memory Garden, Blountville, Sullivan Co TN. Pallbearers will be her nephews. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont United Methodist Church (Love Meals) 1817 Bloomingdale Road, Kingsport, TN 37660.
