I have ancestors David and Maria Broome Tarbert. When my g-grandmother (Maria Ellen Tarbert) was born (1864), they were living in or near Columbia, Lancaster Co, PA. By 1868, they were living in Iowa where a son, Lewis Isaac Tarbert was born. My family claims that David and Maria Tarbert died when the children were young.
Lewis and Maria Ellen Tarbert, plus perhaps other siblings, were taken care of by Nicholas and Ann Faircloth of Lancaster Co, PA. Ann was either a Tarbert or Broome, inasmuch as my family has her as a blood related aunt.
For the 1920 census, my g-grandmother listed her father (David Tarbert) as from Scotland and her mother from PA.
Her brother listed both parents as from USA/PA. In Iowa, another aunt, Arabelle Broome, lived with Lewis' family. She was born NJ with father from PA and mother from Scotland.
These Tarberts also have some connection with Ohio.
I vaguely remember my Dad mentioning a James Tarbert as someone back up the line beyond Maria Ellen Tarbert.
Does this connect??? Hollis (in VA)
