Thomas, Walter,

To clarify things a little bit.....there were 2 founders of the family business (Strawbridge & Clothier) named appropriately after the two families:

1. Justus C. Strawbridge
2. Isaac H. Clothier

The former was my great(+4) grandfather. I can verify this because my father, David Welles, and his brother, Francis Reeves III, spent their entire careers at the Store. I represent the 5th generation of Strawbridge's from the Philadelphia area. There are some family documents which provide a more accurate depiction of the genealogy, however none of these are electronic/online.

There is no one named "Isaac Rendell Strawbridge" that I can recall.

Finally, there is a good history compiling Strawbridge & Clothier which I recommend highly:

Alfred Lief and Frank R. Veale (1968-1992).
Family Business. (New York, NY: McGraw-Hill, 3 vols.). Strawbridge & Clothier. v. 1. A century in the life and times of Strawbridge & Clothier, 1868-1968 / by Alfred A. Lief -- v. 3. The triumphant eighties 1980-1989 / by Frank R. Veale.
