I'm a descendant of John Stell and Susannah Malone. I've been doing a little research on the web the last few days, and have gotten conflicting stories. Alot of the evidence shows that John was born in 1744 in South Carolina. Other sources state he was born in Keighly, Yorkshire, UK. His father, I think, was a Joseph Stell, married to Alice Taylor. Supposedly, Joseph died here in the U.S. in 1799. I found a website, though, that tells a detailed story of Joseph Stell in Keighly who married Alice Taylor. He was born in 1705 and baptized in 1710. His father was Michael Stell. Anyway, this story goes on to tell of the rise and fall of Joseph Stell, and how he was eventually convicted and hung in York in 1768. Am I on the right track here? Or were there two Joseph Stell's in Keighly with wives names Alice Taylor and sons named John? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I've also seen alot of sources that list John Stell, Susannah's husband, as being born in both the U.S. and the U.K.
