John Daniel MacLeod was in Company A, 1st Marine Battalion in June 1898. 650 Marines assaulted the beach at Guantanamo Bay to drive the Spanish out of the area. He was a Canadian from Pictou County, Nova Scotia. I searched through the Marine Muster Roll at NARA one name at a time till I found him. His brother George was in the 8th Massachusetts.

The following is the transcription of the Marine Discharge for John Daniel MacLeod as best I can make it out.
