Gentlemen: I am pleased to have found this information about the Spanish American War. My Grandfather was Charles Edgar McCart. Noted from a McCart Family history page: "Charles enlisted in the army with a boyhood friend, John Hubbard to fight in the Philippine Revolution commanded by General Frederick Funston. He was in the 44th Infantry regiment and sailed out of San Francisco, CA". As a young child my sisters and I stayed often several days at a time with our grandparents. My Grandfather was one of the proudest American's that I have ever known. He shared his many "war stories" with us children. He took us to many parades. When the soldiers were marching by with the American flag he commanded us: "Stand up and salute whenever the flag goes by, chin up, show every one that you are proud to be an American! Don't ever forget. When you grow up and have children - remind them too!" My Grandfather had marvelous blue eyes and when he talked about his love for America those eyes sparkled like blue fire. I had no idea there was a support group for Veterans of the Spainish American War. My Aunt Becky researched the McCart Family History (she wanted to belong to the DAR). There has been a McCart in every major military action since the beginning of this country (and before that in Ireland, also). However, my grandfather's health suffered from being in that action. He got some kind of fever that was always making him sick. Good luck and keep up the good work. I would like to know how to find out more about my Grandfather's service. Please e-mail me at: bualta35@yahoo.com. Respectfully, Betty McCart Urena
