In looking over the obituary of my great-uncle (through marriage), Edward J. Martin, I found the details of his Spanish-American War Service. He lived and worked in Worcester, Mass. He served as a youth in Cuba with Company C 2d Regiment. After the war, he reenlisted in Company C and was post quartermaster sergeant with that Unit. He was appointed chief armorer at the Worcester Armory in 1909 and held that position for 35 years. He was a member of the Worcester Light Infantry Veterans' Association, the Massachusetts Armorer's Association, the Col. E.R. Shumway Camp 28, U.S.W.V., and the Military Order of Snails. I can't find any references on the internet to Military Snails. The name seems unflattering, and I'm wondering whether I misread the word. The obit is in bad shape and hard to read. Thanks for any info.
