Not to nit-pick, but hopefully to clarify, while Farragut did spend his share of time on the Mississippi, the quote referred to was made while on a different body of water - at the entrance to Mobile Bay. An interesting side note: this quote, like many others, was modified by the press into its present form so as to make it more memorable for the masses. What Farragut actually said was, "Damn the torpedoes ! Four bells ! Captain Drayton, go ahead! Jouett, full speed!" |
