I collected some Kennedy CW pension information from the National Archives. I did not change any of the name spellings. Hope this will help some folks.

Kennedy Research

From the pension files of James S. Kennedy

James J. Kennedy son of David S. Kennedy

Married Rebecca Wade, Aug 11 1857

Place: unknown

Rebecca died in Jackson, Tenn

From a General Affidavit in James pension record

“I was present with my company C. A 1st Miss (Ala) Vols and knew & saw Rebeca Kennedy about every day in later part of 1862, and while I did not see Rebeca Kennedy die nor do I know of any living person that did see her die. It was current news in camp that Rebeca Kennedy had died. The news was that she together with her children had died of the measles, and principly of negelt."

William S. Kennedy

As a note: Also in a General Affidavit, Elizabeth Clack (Kennedy) and Sara Miller (Kennedy) both, daughters of William S. Kennedy, write that Rebeca Kennedy died in their fathers home in Jackson Tenn. A guess on my part….. at the time of the General Affidavit by William S. Kennedy above, he was 84 years old. He may have forgotten about his daughters being in Tenn. He was still in the service when Rebeca died. Interesting to note, William had a “home” in Jackson Tenn. Or, did his family live there only during the war years. ??

James J. Kennedy remaired Malinda Porter (Jones) Feb 11 1865

Childern listed on the pension

Joesph Kennedy Sept 9 1866

Ella M. Kennedy Oct 18 1863

Benjamin H. Kennedy Jan 2 1873

Maude Kennedy Nov 8 1877
There may be more children but these are the only ones listed.

In a General Affidavit: George W. Kennedy refers to James S. Kennedy as a “hafe-brother” ??

Was David S. Kennedy married twice?

Jane Kennedy, daughter of David S. Kennedy, married William Nix (From William Nix pension records)

Jane died in Fairfield IA. Note, that Fairfield is readable but the IA is not very well written. There is another reference to Fairfield IA. later in the pension record and William having been there. Jane died appox 1863. William was still in the Army.

It also states that William and Jane had one child, Mary in the fall of 1862

Artemus Kennedy, son of Hamilton Kennedy married Sarah S. Keflinger (this is the spelling on the pension record) also known as Caplenger. Oct 20 1859

A signer of the document was also a John Keflinger

Childern were:

John Hamilton Kennedy March 7 1861 Franklin Co. Ala

Artemus Montgomery Kennedy May 11 1863

Married by Robert Little

Sarah remarried David Taylor Sept 19 1867 and moved to Yell Co. Ark.

Sarah Died May 27 1930

Russel S. Kennedy did apply for a pension after the CW. The National Archives were unable to locate the file.
