Abram Goode, g-grandfather - fought for Confederacy, captured and paroled at Vicksburg, part of 1st GA Infantry USA.
Siloam Goode, brother of Abram - fought for Confederacy, wounded at South Mountain, in Charleston hospital in 1864, part of 1st GA Infantry USA, then officer in 5th TN Mtd Infantry.
William A. Goode, brother of Abram - fought only for the Union, lying about his age to enlist in 5th TN Mtd Infantry.
Joseph James Goode, brother of Abram - Confederate Soldier, then enlisted in 5th TN Mtd Infantry.
William G. Brown, brother-in-law of Abram, part of 1st GA Infantry USA.
Barbara Goode - Abram's mother and a widow by the time of the war. Was a midwife when the war started, but rode her horse around the county trying to deliver other medical services while her boys (and some of the other docs) were gone.
The family was neither rich nor poor. Barbara's and her husband's parents owned slaves, but they did not. Brown was third richest in county, but he did not own slaves. Barbara's dad was German - I wonder if that was a factor.
Also, I have Harrises, Fitts, and Cochrans who were Unionists.
