Well, I may as well add my two cents worth. My gg-grandfather, Thomas Milton
Gentle, was a member of Co.F, 3rd Ohio Cavalry. He was with General Sherman
up until Kennesaw Mountain where he was taken ill and sent back to
Chattanooga, Tennessee for treatment. After a stay in the hospital he was
granted leave to return home to Jackson County, Alabama for further
recuperation. Before rejoining his troop in Macon, Georgia a child was
conceived. The son was born in 1865 and was named William Sherman Gentle.
