Not sure if this is any use to you whatsoever, but my ancestors surname is COWLAM, and he married in 1861 at Wellington, district Paarl. He came from Lincolnshire (England) and there the name goes through innumerable transitions, including COLAM.

He doesn't have a sister named Henrietta, but I'd seriously suggest you try that and COWLAN, COLLAN, COWLEY and so on. It's a huge family, but the IGI have problems (or did) lumping them all in together in any meaningful way.

I'm in touch with many relatives, all who've had families settle on different variations in recent times (since mid 19th century).
