Mine did, Edith. Breifly, my husband's grandfather, Daniel was listed in the 1910 and 1920 census records as Daniel J. McGee. The 1910 in Dunklin County and the 1920 in Stoddard County, MO. Acoording toi census records Daniel was illiterate. Daniel's sons William (Cliff's father), Milledge,Merrill and their sister Bertie (Alberta)used McGhee. Samuel, Walter, Earl and their sister, Lillie used McGee. The 1920 cenus records have in New Madred County; Bill and Merrill both as McGhie. Now; My husband Cliff has done the DNA swab. Guess what? He is a MCGEHEE. The McGehee line we belong to started in VA then to NC and TN. Now we are in every state in the US. My research is mainly in the southern states, but I know that by 1910 Cliff's uncles were in Michigan for a short time. I now look at all the surname spellings possible. I am now looking at indian census records, because I cannot find Daniel Joseph (all spellings) as a son of a Joseph and Sarah. There are some indications that he might have had an indian mother.
