Hello Cheryl – I don’t know if this info will assist you in locating the answers to your questions, but it may help in some small way. I am a direct descendent of the Sisler line you are referring to and believe your elusive Rarick ancestor may have been connected to the Sisler line in one of two ways. Note that the first ancestor below (Lewis Sisler I), was married, but no one seems to have the info on who his spouse was. I would not be surprised to learn that the Rarick name comes from HER line. The other possibility is that he is linked to the Margaret Marsh family. Margaret Marsh married Lewis II (son of Lewis I), but no one seems to know who her mother was. Her father was George Marsh, but her mother could well have been a Rarick. It seems that your John Rarick was born the same year as Lewis Sisler II. Also, it is interesting to note that Lewis Sisler II (father of Houston, Charles, Lewis and Mary Ann), died the year after the 1850 census you mention, though his wife lived until 1872. It is possible that he had a lingering illness that necessitated his younger children being ‘farmed out’ to other members of the family. It is also possible that (gasp), Margaret left Lewis II and took up with Mr. Rarick. I imagine it is far more likely that he is a direct relative though. It is odd that there seems to be no mention of the two youngest children of Lewis II and Margaret (James Alonzo Sisler & Margaret Sisler) in the census records you mentioned. Should you discover a connection to the Sisler line, please forward that info on to me.
