I am not related to the Sipes family, but had a few questions I wanted answered, so I have been compiling a Sipes file. Regarding the 2nd marriage record for Mariah Fields: Sipes Geo Maria T Fields 1871 3 89 Martin Co., IN It is my feeling that this may be an error in the transcription of Martin County Marriage Records. Mariah could have married between 1870 and her marriage to William H. Sipes 09 Jul 1874, but I just don’t think so. Mariah is listed at home in 1870 and William is at home with his parents, George and 3rd wife, Nancy in 1870. There was a George Sipes’ marriage in that time period. George Sipes (b: ca 1801), who married Sarah Claycomb before 1827, probably in Kentucky. Sarah died between 1860 and 1870 and George is living with his daughter, Eliza and her husband, Truelove Brown in 1870. By 1880, George has remarried to Marthy A. Unk. She is the widow of Unknown “Fraim”. 1880 Martin Co., IN Baker Twp District 148 Roll 298 Book 1 Page 262b 202-202 Sips, George SIPS MW 78 Farmer KY PA PA Marthy A FW 36 Wife IN KY KY b: ca 1844 Fraim, Jurasha A. FW 10 SDau IN IN IN Adda M. FW 8 SDau IN IN IN I have had no success tracing this Martha “Fraim”. There are some strange entries on rootsweb, but they don’t work out. A Jacob Frame is listed in Greene Co., IN, Beech Creek Twp in 1870: Series: M593, Roll: 318, Part: 1, Page: 263A. Jacob Frame was born 2 Oct 1824 in Wills Twp., Guernsey, Ohio, and died 25 Aug 1886 in , Greene, Indiana. He was buried in Solsberry Cem, Beech Creek Twp., Greene, Indiana. He married Martha Ann Torrence 15 MAY 1851 in Noble, OH or Greene Co IN. She was born 23 Nov 1833, and died 9 Dec 1906 in Greene, Indiana. One of the entries lists their children as: Children Ezra E. b: ABT 1854 Luther b: 1856 Ida M. (Mrs. John M. Bryan) b: 1862 Jessie (Mrs. Chas A. Johnson) b: 1866 Effie (Mrs. Frank Oho) b: 1868 Viola Retta b: 1870 Bessie (Mrs. Henry D. Coster) b: 1872 Martha (Mrs. George Sypes) b: ABT 1874 Jacob and Martha are listed in the 1880 Greene Co., census and there is no daughter, Martha b: 1874. The Martha who married George Sipes was b: ca 1844, the same time period as Jacob Frame, so she could have been married to a brother of Jacob Frame, but I have found nothing so far regarding Martha’s 1st marriage. Jacob Frames’ parents are said to be James Frame & Margaret Caldwell of Ohio. There doesn’t seem to be a brother who is unaccounted for. I have searched the 1870 census for a “Frame” with wife, Martha . . . but haven’t found one.
