Looking for information on Captain William Burrows who was born in Carlisle Cumberland in on the 6th of July 1830. The family then moved to the Isle of Man. He left the family at an early age to begin a life on the sea. During his life he travelled often between the UK and Singapore (and Asia) and made Singapore his home. He became a Harbour Pilot for Singapore.
He was ?married to Maimunah binte Raja Muda (Mona/ Nona)a cheiftan's daughter and they had several children. I have found several names for the children but they don't match the names from the original source.
Apparently two of their children were murdered by pirates in the 1860's while they were living on the island of Blakang Mati (Sentosa).
Williams parent's were Ann Postlethwaite and William Burrows. His siblings were Ann, John and Richard. Capt. William's father died on The Creggans on 17 Feb 1874.
I would love to hear from anyone who has information on any of this family, especially anything to do with Mona/Nona his wife.
