Peter Secrist appears to have been in Harrison Co, IN by 1820. There was a Peter Secrist who enlisted in the War of 1812 in Fairfield Co, Ohio. I'm trying to find out if there is a connection. I believe Peter was from Germany. He wrote his name in old German script on the first deed he signed in Harrison Co, IN. I was told in Salt Lake City that there was a good possibility the family originated in the predominantly Catholic part of Germany, as the name is derived from Sacristy.
