I am researching the Scofield descendants of Shadrach and Mary W (Barnand) Scofield of Sullivan County, New York. Three of their sons (that I know of) Augustus, William and Horace moved to Clinton County Iowa around 1850. Augustus was married either two or three times in Clinton County. One marriage was to widow Ellen Collins who had children with whom he had an additional three children: Robert, Martha and Hattie,all born in Iowa, before 1880 Ellen and augustus were divorced. Augustus married again in 1878 to Sarah Spears who had children from a previous marriage, this marriage had no other children. I have this line tentatively researched all the way to Daniel Scofield immigration in the 1600's. The problem I am running into, is that the 1880 census of the divorced Ellen Scofield has a 1 year old, Charles E Scofield, who is listed as adopted (father born Iowa, mother born Norway), he is my line. I saw some research that suggested Robert Scofield, son of Augustus, had been married three times. One in 6/1875 to Reke Fleck, I am wondering of this is Charles biological parents. Any info to enlighten would be greatly appreciated.
