I would assume that if there was actually an obit notice issued, it would have been published in the Westminster or Seneca newspapers. Then you always have the newspapers in nearby Anderson & Greenville that could be searched. Your talking about a remote area that's located in the center of all these newspaper locations.
The Walhalla Public Library has a big index card file system that contains many obit notices that were published in the Westminster & Walhalla newspapers.
