A Charles C. Perry is listed in the Oconee South Carolina Cemetery Survey, Volume One (Pendleton Chapter of South Carolina Genealogical Society) page 207, as buried in the St. John's Luthern Church cemetery in Walhalla. The inscription on the headstone is given as b. 10 April 1834 d. 26 September 1872.

The dates are within the range for the event you describe to occur. According to the 1870 census he was age 37 in June 1870 which indicates a birth between 1832 and 1834. If Edward were born between January and June 1873 it is possible that the Charles C. Perry could have been his father. The 1900 census should provide a clue as to Edward's birth month.

Minutes of St. John's Luthern Church, if they have survived, should be checked for additional clues. Also probate records of Oconee County should be reviewed. This is probably a long shot as he owned no real estate or had personal property recorded in the 1870 census.

Hope this helps. I am not related.
