I ,too believe Malissa Cox's mother was named Sara and her father might be James Cox.Sara is listed in the 1850 census with Melissa,Elias G. and William,who was my grgr grandfather.In 1860 Sara is living with William and his wife Elizabeth(Lizzie) Phillips,daughter of Joel Ledbetter Phillips.In 1840,James Cox lived near Jacob Butte(Butts)Joel Phillips,Jonas Phillips and Jeremiah Gassoway. 1850,James Cox and Jeremiah Gassoway are not listed,but Sara Cox and Rachel Gassoway are living near Jacob Butts,Jonas and Joel Phillips. James Cox has 5 sons and 4 daughters listed in the 1840 census.I am trying to find out if Hannah Cox was the sister to Melissa and William.She married William Riley Moore and their daughter Mary married Jacob B. Butts ,Jr .If anyone has an answer to Hannah I would appreciate the information. |
