In 1860 Moses Levi Cantrell owned property in Whitewater Twp., Pickens County worth $4000. That property was probably in the Cheohee Valley, Moody Cove area. (I'm wondering if the Cantrell Creek and Cantrell Mountain was named for him.) That much real estate worth was a few hundred acres in those days! I'm trying to figure out how he got the property (probably throught the Indian Territory land grants/surveys or whatever) in an effort to trace where he came from and hopefully where his parents were/came from. They are said to have been William Cantrell b. abt. 1778 and Elizabeth Smith who more than likely were in the old Pickens County area also. This family of Cantrells, the Alexanders and the Hudsons were all in the same vicinity in the early 1800s.
If you know of property that I might be part of the original Moses Levi Cantrell property, I would love to hear from you. I hope there are decendants still on some of that original property.
