Trying to go back to the origin of the name; Massiah SMITH was b. 1838 part Indian s/o Christopher and Nancy SMITH; Nancy was the daughter of Free WILL either Creek or Cherokee. Massiah m. Mary Ann SMITH d/o Washington SMITH and Elizabeth ROACH SMITH all of whom lived along the line of no man's land between the Whites and Indians at Chauiga Creek. Does anyone have info on any of these people so we can trade info. Who was this ChristopherSMITH?
Massiah LONG reportedly was [adoptive] father of three Indian girls left behind when the Indians moved out of area of Oconee. The tale says he took them in and raised them as his own children. More likely it was his father who took the girls in. Who was Massiah LONG's father and who were these girls? Was Nancy SMITH above one of them?
The name Massiah Cobb was apparently handed down to a COBB son by one of Massiah LONG's daughters. Does anyone want to share the story on that?
Of course the biggest mystery is who is Free WILL? He was the father of Nancy SMITH shown above and Polly Williams who married George WILLIAMS. [This is documented fact]Who was the other third girl? Was Free WILL in fact the father of Massiah LONG?
Please don't just throw out the info above as a family tale because much of it is fact as recorded in the Eastern Claims of the Cherokee Indians.
Please help if you have any info at all I will gladly share with you Charles bonedigger@highstream.net
