I am looking for information on the Mark Reaves Sr. family of Horry Co SC who had three children who married Johnstons (or Johnsons). Nancy Ann JOHNSTON married Mark REAVES, Jr. in Horry County, SC in 1815. This Mark Reaves is the son of Mark Reaves, Sr. and Spicy Ann Smith. Mark Reaves Jr. had two sisters who married JOHNSTON brothers. Candis/Candace Reaves married Joshua Johnston, Jr. in Horry County before moving to central Georgia (Baker and Early Counties). Her sister Mary Reaves married Jacob Johnston and we believe they moved to central Georgia as well (probably Bibb County). Both sons later dropped the "t" and became Johnson. Jacob and Joshua Johnston, Jr. were sons of Joshua Johnston, Sr, who moved into Horry County SC from NC (probably Duplin Co.) between 1802 and 1810 with his six sons: Joshua Jr., Jacob, Nathan, William, Enoch, and David. There were also three daughters, names unknown. All of these children were born in NC before Joshua Sr. moved to Horry County. Which brings me to my question: Is this Nancy Ann Johnston who married Mark Reaves Jr. the sister of the above-mentioned Jacob and Joshua Jr.? Since those two men married Reaves sisters, it is not much of a stretch to think that Mark Reaves might have married into the same Johnston family. Our Johnston census records show that two of the unknown daughters of Joshua Sr. are thought to have been born between 1790 and 1800. As I understand it, this Nancy Ann Johnston was born in 1796, which would fit that time frame. I am hoping that someone has information on Nancy Ann Johnston that might help prove (or disprove) her connection to my Johnstons. Where was she born? Any other information on her family, parents, siblings, etc.? Did the Mark REAVES family come from NC into Horry at about the same time as my JOHNSTON line (after 1802, but before 1815 when Mark and Nancy Ann were married in SC)? Did Mark and Nancy Ann live in Horry County til their deaths? I have more information on this Johnston line if anyone is interested. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dorothy (Johnson) Callaway |
