Hello Margaret,
Re: Joshua Toomer in Dorchester co SC. I have posted a fairly accurate listing of the 1790 census for (now) Dorchester co SC, then part of Colleton co SC. It is at www.rootsweb.com/~scdorche/census1790.html

Joshua Toomer is not part of my 1790 census. If you think I an in error, please let me know and I can correct the census. Present day Dorchester co was formed from all of St. Georges' Parish, Colleton co., the Beech Hill - Cane Acre area and parts of St. Matthews Parish, Berkeley co and (possibly) St. Pauls Parish in Charleston co.

Joshua Toomer served in the Revolutionary war with the St. Helena Militia which probably was Colleton co proper then. He may have lived next door in Beaufort co. so It might be wise to post your query in those two countys also.

Regards, Robert Hughes
