My aunt did extensive research into our family's genealogy before the web. Just lots of hard work. Here's what I have ... William's last name was spelled "Saile", not "Sale". He was the first immigrant in this branch. Her research also states his arrival was in 1657. No record of his spouse but he had a son, Cornelius Saile, who lived in Rappahannock, VA and was married to a Mary Samuel of Caroline County, VA. The next generation began the surname of "Sale". Follow this link to discover more about the origin of the name "Saile" and how the "i" was dropped.
