He arrived at Ellis Island with his name transcribed as Redonger. Admittedly, the writing does look like that. He was travelling alone with his original place of residence being Johannesthal. There are at least 4 villages with that name in Kherson province, 1 in Krim (Crimea) and 1 in North Caucasus, all of which could be classed as the Odessa region of research.
If the family is from the last one of those, there are no records available and further research is impossible. This could explain why they cannot be found in the St. Petersburg extractions at the Odessa3 site. But further careful research needs to be done to verify all this before shutting down the search.
