Thanks, Marsha. I've looked at those already, and there are problems with the Sidney Rose on those two census being the one I'm looking for. Genealogist Christine Rose (same name, no relation) looked at this for me also, and she had the same problem. It's easy to see why people think the Sidney Rose in the 1870 & 1880 censuses is the same, but it doesn't match what I've been able to confirm. I am going to check with the person who provided the Rootsweb info, so thanks for that. Wish me lots of luck! Christine
