Hi Barbara,

It may help to know that a more common spelling is Heckmondwike. My grandmother was a Ramsden from Dewsbury, about 2 miles away. Her father, Ned Ramsden came from Soothill.

A site that is very informative from a distant step-relation of mine is:

You will find my Ramsden ancestors in that.

However, although not a common name world-wide, Ramsden is a name that was locally common to this area of West Yorkshire, known as the Spen Valley. These Dewsbury Ramsdens may not be what you are looking for. Good luck!
