Hi Rachel,
I was not able to open the website you sent along with your posting.

I am not an expert on this subject and nor am I giving you legal advise. I am an interested person just like you are and I am sharing what limited information I know.

I am not ware of any declaration cases in Laredo, Texas. I did hear about one last month but it took place in Rio Grande. The one I am referring to was just a preliminary hearing of some type that the judge had with the attorneys and some of the clients. No real action was taken and there is a follow up meeting for the attorneys only later in January. I persume that a trial date will be set for the "declaration of heirship" at some point in the future. Again, my understanding is that it will be for the descendants of Jose Vicente Longoria.

If you were declared a legal heir for Pedro Longoria, were you given something in writing or were you contacted by your attorney? Were you present at the trial? Did you have all your docuements to prove liniage to Pedro Longoria? Also, were your docuements verified by a certified genealogist? The normal process is that you prepare all your docuements through a certified genealogist and then your attorney takes the information to court so that you can be declared a legal heir. My understanding is that being declared a legal heir is only a first step. Your attorney then has to confront the oil company(ies) and file a claim on your behalf.

Good luck!
