Re: Samuel Radford Family
In an attempt to follow up on the legend in the Raleigh Radford family that the youngest son of Samuel and Cynthia Kilpatrick Radford was given the name Raleigh because the family is related to Sir Walter Raleigh, I am listing the children of Lawrence and Margaret Raleigh Radford. Perhaps someone has found reference to one of the children or grandchildren in early Radford research in America. Arthur Radford, Gilbert Radford, Benjamin Radford, Raleigh Radford, Bridget Radford m. Edward Yard of Clyst Honiton, Katherine Radford, Sophia Radford m. Thomas Pomfret, Mary Radford.
The following is quoted from http://www/exetermemories.co.uk/EM/_areas/mountradford.php "In 1570 (Lawrence married Margaret in 1565 the same year his father, John, died.) a wealthy Exonian lawyer named Lawrence Radford 'did build him a faye house and called it Mount Radford' at the end of what would become St. Leonards Road. He named the house Radford Place. During the Civil War the house was fortified along with many other properties around Exeter. In common with some other fortified houses, it had Mount added to its name to become Mount Radford." There is a picture of the house which had an interesting history and stood until the 1840's.
Any information on the descendants of this family or on Lawrence's brothers and sisters will be appreciated.
