I have an ancestor, Thomas Downs Jr. who is said to have been a Sargent. I'm suspecting that it's a militia rank as his father Thomas Downs Sr. was the immigrant and Thomas Jr. was born March 17, 1654 in Boston, Mass. But on the other hand, I don't think that would have prevented him from joining the British army. Anyhow, it's said that him and 3 others were killed by indians in 1711 in Kittery, Maine. Has anyone heard of this? Was it an isolated incident? Or part of something related to a larger event? Has anyone out there ever researched an ancestor's history from this war? What is out there for sources for research on this subject? Thank You, Michael Cootware |
