I believe the "Purser Leigh" and "Philip Purser" entries in the LDS records are in error.
Robert Purser(b. ca 1673) emigrated into Bath County, NC about 1701 from Warwick, VA. James Leigh (b.ca 1650, d. 1733)emigrated into Bath Co. NC from Warwick VA abt 1701 also. Robert Purser m. Patience Leigh (b. 1677), daughter of James Leigh abt 1701-02.
Robert and Patience had issue: Mary (b. abt 1715),Richard (b.abt 1718), James "Leigh" (b. abt. 1720). Robert (b. abt 1722) and Benjamin(b. abt 1724). These are documented in Robert Purser's will dated 1733. I have put the Leigh in James Leigh Purser in quotes because it is not written in in the will. However, the Leigh family in NC was very name conscious and the odds are very great this is where James Leigh comes from.
Of course James Leigh Purser married Ann Darden and they had Patience Purser in 1761 who then married James Brinson, etc.
I think Robert Purser(Pusser in his will) was the first Purser, Pusser, Purcer,Perser, Percer etc in NC and is the founder of the line.
