I have this Benjamin Portwood identified as Benjamin Portwood, Jr. (b. c.1783, Currituck Co., NC, d. AL) m. (1) Feb. 23, 1808, Wilkes Co., GA to Martha 'Patsy' Perkins (b. c.1790, Currituck Co., NC, prob. d. 1824-1838) & (2) June 15, 1825, Wilkes Co., GA to Rebecca Ogletree (b. c.1787, GA?) w/children:
1) Wiley D. Portwood (b. 1811, Jasper Co., GA)
2) John Portwood, Sr. (b. 1814, Jasper Co., GA)
3) Thomas Jackson 'Little Thomas' Portwood, Sr. (b. Feb. 14, 1815, Wilkes Co., GA)
4) Elizabeth Portwood (b. 1824, Wilkes Co., GA)
5) David Ogletree Portwood, Sr. (b. May 25, 1827, Wilkes Co., GA)
6) James Harmon Portwood (b. Dec. 25, 1829, Wilkes Co., GA)
7) Jesse Portwood (b. May 12, 1831, Wilkes Co., GA)
8) Susan Portwood (b. May 1837, Wilkes Co., GA)
I have Benjamin Portwood, Jr. as son of Benjamin Portwood, Sr. (b. 1755-1760, Currituck Co., NC, d. c.1841, Madison Co., AL) m. prob. c.1781, Currituck Co., NC to Elizabeth 'Betsy' Berry (b. c.1759, NC?)
I have Howard Columbus Portwood entered as Howard Columbus Portwood (b. 1787, NC?, d. after 1854) m. (1) Sept. 7, 1815, Wilkes Co., GA (by Archibald Graham, J.P.) to Tempy Phillips (b. c. 1791, Wilkes Co., GA?, d. 1822, Wilkes Co., GA) & (2) Dec. 20, 1822, Wilkes Co., GA to Milly Taylor (b. c.1791, Wilkes Co., GA?) & (3) Oct. 2, 1843, Stewart Co., GA to Elizabeth Durden/Jordan (b. c. 1820, GA, d. After 1854). The third marriage could perhaps be the marriage of a son with the same name and both have been merged together. We might be able to clear up this issue using the household information listed in the 1850 Census. I've heard that Howard's family is supposed to be listed in Mineral Springs Dist., Stewart Co., GA (p.121) in 1850.
I have Howard (or the older of the two, if they are father & son merged together) as son of Benjamin Portwood, Sr. & Elizabeth 'Betsy' Berry. I have Benjamin Portwood, Sr. as son of Martin Portwood who is the oldest son of Gilbert Portwood & Mary Stevens [mentioned in Gilbert's will]. Gilbert may or may not be son of another Martin Portwood who fought in the Maryland Protestant Revolution [The Glorious Revolution].
