Judith,
I would like to ask a question and then add some info to the heap.
First, did Adam Pitner leave a will when he died naming his children or did Rachael?
Secondly, according to the document written about Habersham Ga History posted on Rootsweb, the Pitners settled on the Capps land.
I just found Prior L Pitner in White Ga 1860 and living next door is Elizabeth Capps she is 38 b 1822 Tn, has Albert 20, Mary 17, Josephine 15, Thomas 12, Jourdan 10 m and Martha 7 all b Ga
In 1870 Pryor Pitner again in White Ga; 2 doors away is still Eliza Capps 48 Tn, Mary 27, FLora(Josephine) 25, Thomas 23 and a Thomas Endsley 12.

Back to Habersham in 1850 is an F Capps 38 b 1812, E Capps 27 b 1823, SL 12 m 1838, MJ 10 b 1840 f, LJ 8 b 1842 f, TA 15 b 1835 m, MA 2 b 1848 f and JJ 8/12 b 1850 f. I beleive the TA 15 is wrong as the olther children all seem to be in order and maybe TA should be 5 instead of 15.

Could this be Elizabeth Pitner? She named a son Albert, Adam and Rachael had a son Albert. THe census info is a little off but could she be the E Capps in 1850 Habersham? She would not have shown on the 1850 census in Adam's household as she was already married to F Capps. She lived close to Prior in White Ga. Just thought it could be possible. Trying to get a line on the Capps in Habersham and Adam Pitner is all tied up with them with the land. Since he is noted to have settled on what was already known as Capps land, possibly the Capps were there before him or just owned it before he did.

Do you know if he always lived in the same spot or did he move in Habersham Co? The Capps appear to have been at the end of the county, just as you find F Capps in 1850 last pg of Dist 18.

My Capps appear to have come from TN too to the Habersham area. As one was born in 1816 in TN and then next child 1822 in Habersham. They were orphans by 1827 and won land in lottery.
Thanks,
Nancy
