Hi Bob & thanks for the reply. Yes, this is the same guy--I just don't know where the other information about his death date & place come from. His children were baptized in Washington, CT, according the vital records abstracted in the Barbour collection. While I don't have copies of the deeds, I'm told by a researcher in Rutland that he bought land in Clarendon in 1779 while a resident of Washington, CT, and was living there by September of the next year, presumably as verified by some tax record. He's found in Clarendon listed side by side with Ebenezer Jr. in the 1800 census, but he sold his land in Clarendon and moved to Rutland in 1801. Son Reuben got in trouble in Rutland in 1785 and was labeled as a "common cheat" by the state attorney of Rutland County in a public notice in some newspaper. He headed off to Pompey, Onondaga Co; it's not clear whether he died there or whether he's the same Reuben Pitcher that made it into the Indiana frontier. Ebenezer Jr. seems to have had a family of his own, judging from census records, but I can't find any trace of them on the internet. I was hoping to find some record that would establish my Abner Pitcher, b. abt. 1757, probably in the vicinity of Norwich, once a member of General Washington's personal Life Guard, as a member of this family, as suggested by circumstantial evidence of migration paths & naming practices, but I haven't turned anything probative yet.
