Born January 20, 1945, in Grundy, VA, he was a son of the late Paul Allen and Trula Hess Perkins. A lifelong resident of the Russell Co VA area, he was of the Freewill Baptist faith and a disabled coal miner. He was a loving husband, daddy and poppaw and will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant daughters; one grandson, Brandon Perkins; three brothers, Therman Perkins, Sherman Perkins, and one infant brother; one nephew, Terry Perkins; grandparents, Jim and Alta Keen Perkins, and Guss and Lula Dye Hess; and his loving mother-in-law, the Rev. Jettie Dye. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Vangeline Dye Perkins of the home; two sons, Michael 'Mike' Perkins and fiancée Alice Justice of Pounding Mill, VA, and Manuel Allen Perkins and wife Peggy Dye Perkins of Lebanon, VA; one daughter, Barbara Perkins Roman and husband Mike of Honaker, VA; two grandsons, Joey Perkins and wife Christy of Honaker, VA, and Chandler Allen Perkins of Lebanon, VA; four granddaughters, Nicole Roman, Kiana Roman, Denelle Perkins and Sydney Harris, all of Honaker, VA; two special foster grandchildren, Chase and Stephanie Breedlove of Castlewood, VA; step-grandchildren, Cody and Casey Justice; four sisters, Francis Poff of NC, Judy Hess and husband Darrell of Honaker, VA, the Rev. Katie Miller of Swords Creek, and Jennie Howell and husband Kenneth of Red Ash; one brother, Darrell Perkins and wife Mary of Honaker, VA; many nieces and nephews who thought of him as more than an uncle – he was 'papaw'; special friend, Cecil Miller of Honaker; several aunts and uncles; and many friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2008, in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, VA, with the Rev. Ellis Whited and Brother Terry Honaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Perkins-Dye Cemetery at Honaker. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Sunday. Pallbearers will be Harold Steffey, William Bill Hess, Frank McClanahan, Jay Howard, Jackie Hicks, Kenny Jackson, Kenny Hall and Dallen Dye. Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Keen, Roger Hubbard, Harry Kinder, George Miller, Alvie Hess, Lee Hess, Randy Smith and Randy Ray. The Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, VA, is serving the Perkins family.
