Am searching for more info on the Schleswig-Holstein origins of these ancestors, my great-great grandparents:

John Carl Paulsen who was reportedly born 07/15/1838 in the Alsace/Loraine area of Germany (note that Alsace-Loraine had gone back and forth from France to Germany during this era). He died 05/08/1901 in El Reno, Oklahoma (Canadian Co.) (was Indian Territory and not a state at the time of his death). He married Christena Marie (Nicholson) Paulsen who was born in Germany on 12/21/1850 (reportedly a daughter of August Nicholson) and died 05/14/1944 in El Reno, Oklahoma (Canadian Co.)
They are buried in the cemetery in El Reno, Canadian County, Oklahoma. The family (including the five oldest children) emigrated reportedly from the Schleswig-Holstein area in Germany on the SS India leaving Hamburg, Germany and arriving in Castle Garden, Manhattan, New York, USA on May 22, 1885. Apparantly, Mrs. Paulsen was 7 months pregnant with child #6, Tillie L., when the ship landed in New York. So, the last 3 of the 8 chidren were born in the USA. These Paulsens first settled in Nebraska, then Norton, Kansas and then came to El Reno, Oklahoma, Indian Territory, in 1893.

The Paulsenís eight children:
