I have been spoiled by having used PAF 2.31 with Gen-Book to create my family histories in register format.
I have recently upgraded (I use the term loosely) to PAF 5.2 and PAF Companion. I can successfully place the genealogies in register format into Word but they in Rich Text Format. I can later convert to a Word document and that is no problem. I cannot go to WordPerfect 12 as this word processor is not recognized by Companion (It only goes to WordPerfect 10); however, I can put in the path and finally get there. This is not much help since I cannot create a good index in WordPerfect 12. I did manage one time but it would only print out one long column. I had to give up using my new WordPerfect program.
Now here is my problem. Gen-Book would convert the files in PAF 2.31 into a perfect genealogy. The postal abbreviations were converted to full state name, the months were also spelled out in full, the city, township, state was expanded correctly, i.e, Chapel Hill, Orange County, North Carolina vs PAF Companion version, Chapel Hill,Orange,NC; and 1 Jan 2005.
These are small things but it would be a big help if the PAF Companion program addressed these issues. Does anyone know if there is an upgrade or some other program that would solve these problems for me.
I am more into publishing my family histories using the register format than making fancy charts.
Rex Clement designed Gen-Book over ten years ago and he solved all these problems and offered multiple options and variations.
Perhaps Rex Clement should be hired to work on these features for PAF Companion as he is a true genius.I would buy his program addressing these issues but he is no longer working on genealogy files.
