I understand well the need for LDS members to have a complete genealogical software. But this software is used by many other people, like me, who recognise the tremendous good work done by the PAF team.
Any software, free or commercial, need improvements. The proper handling of the places is something that misses in PAF, and many users go to commercial softwares for that only reason.
An improvement would be to allow the user to customize the place field in a mask that would properly organize the data. All genealogic associations have data bases. As a member of such association, I have a lot of problems with PAF users to import their Gedcom into our base because of the unorganized PLAC field...
At least, the "drop list" in the place field could be improved in order to :
- be able to edit and save it
- be able to choose the sort order
- be able to merge/export/import a list
User defined field do not allow to link a person of the database (like marriage). So it is like a note...
Witnesses are present for most of the events, such as birth, marriage and death. Usually, these persons are family members or good friends. If we want to record these persons as INDI @Inn@ in the gedcom, they have strong chances to be unlinked to the family tree. Being able to link them as witness would be a great stuff.
Again, I wish to thank all persons involved in the development of the PAF software. This is because I use & like it that I do these comments on potential improvements.
