If you have just downloaded the PAF 5.2.18 setup file (and saved it I hope)and were running the PAF setup file to install PAF 5.2.18 and get an iKernel error message, what should you do?

The iKernel error occurs when you are running the InstallShield program to install PAF 5.2, and other applications are running too.

*** The simpliest solution to it--is to REBOOT your computer and then run the PAF Setup (e.g., PAF5EnglishSetup.exe, or PAF5AllLangs.exe, etc.) again first thing.

If you have a Virus Checker program running, you may want to disable it first before running the PAF setup.

If you still get the iKernel error again, here are some other suggestions to try:
1. If you are using a Windows XP, 2000, or NT machine, you need to have administrative permissions to run setup.
2. If you just ran a setup, you need to wait 10-15 seconds before running another setup or before trying the same setup again.
3. Check and make sure Ikernel.exe is not in memory. If it is, and no setup is running at the time, end that task and restart the system.
4. Clean out the Temp folder.
5. Delete the "Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine" folder and then rerun the setup.

If you still experience iKernel errors, go to InstallShield's support web site:
and look up the following articles in the Knowledge Base:
Q105408, Q104986, Q105097.

*** Fewer iKernel errors result when the PAF 5 Install CD is used.

Once you have the PAF install running, it will seamlessly update your existing PAF 5.0/5.1 software. There is no need to uninstall PAF 5.0/5.1 to upgrade to PAF 5.2.18. If fact, uninstalling PAF 5.0/5.1 will remove your custom settings in PAF Preferences, templates, and ditto lists. (Note: uninstalling PAF 5 will not remove your data files.)
