Hi Bridget This is on version 5 On page 78 is a chapter on Name guidelines. Usually the women are identified by their maiden names to show their lines in those families. There is a box on the edit individual screen that is titled "Married names" . Then the husbands are entered as spouses. Birth Certificate would be a source citation and it is usually begun with the edit individual screen. There is a "Individual Soucres" box on the right. Click on it to start the process. On the next screen you can begin with the "new" button. You could enter a title of "Birth Certificate" and then there are other boxes if you want to put in more information. One tip: the "Author" box should be filled in if there is a person's name who wrote the article, etc. It will print first in the sources when printed. If you don't have a printer you could try to use the "print to file" feature and put in on a floppy disk and maybe use a printer at you local library. They have a lot of information under the "help" button. A couple of suggestions when you first start are 1. going to "Tools" and then "Preferences" and then on that screen UNCHECK the "Use LDS data" if you are not LDS and 2. Over on the right is the "Display Notes Selector" and CHECK "while browsing". This gives you the option of using TAG on your notes, page 63 in the Guidelines book. Take your time, there are lots of features and they will all seem natural before long. Henry Oh yea: There are three main levels (sometimmes more) of place location. City,County,State and I have just learned the comma's need to be included if info is not know: City,,State or ,County,State or ,,State. That signifies which level is indicated. When entering the information apparently you don't need to insert the spaces, the program will do that for you! |
