When you start Match/Merge, there are four options: Soundex, Exact spelling, AFN, and Unique record serial numbers (UID's). When you select AFN's or UID's merges, PAF will automatically merge exact duplicates if you check the box on Merge options. This means both records must be identical in name and events (or name only records)for them to merge. All other options require you to merge them separately, one at a time because computers are not smart enough to know good data from bad data. That's why we have humans making that choice.
