I'm looking for any information on a William Griffin who was reportedly born about 1824 in Pennsylvania.... have no clue as to where in the state. In 1848, he married Martha Burgess from Virginia in Preble County Ohio. I don't know when he arrived in Ohio, but he left Ohio in 1865 for Berrien County Michigan with Martha and 5 children. I'm descended from the 3rd child, George B Griffin. William Griffin received a land grant from the US government of 80 acres in Pipestone Twp, Berrien County MI in 1854, but the Civil War delayed his taking his family there until 1865.
Any help in finding a birth record or parents or siblings for this William Griffin would be most appreciated. The date is only approximate... given in a census, so it may be anytime in 1824 or 1823, etc.
We've had hints that his father was from NY state and that he fought in the Rev War or War of 1812, but without a first name, we cannot confirm this.
