Karen, Thanks for your response. I'm glad you didn't think me a total idiot for my thoughts. Some researchers refuse to believe Elizabeth was anything but a Handwerk. I am descended from the youngest son, Henry. He married Maria Horn. They had a daughter Amanda Rex, who married Levi Shoemaker and their daughter Fyetta was my great grandmother. I've tried to do some searching on the children of Andreas Meyer, but with no luck so far. It is possible that with early deaths, or ones who moved out of the area -- that may account for no Meyer sponsors. And Elizabeth may also have been fonder of (and closer to)the Handwerks. Please do keep me apprised if you find out anything further about this connection and I will do likewise. I can't remember if I stated this in my original message, but I discovered this at a Handwerk reunion I attended last year. I was looking over some of the historian's notes and noticed the fact of Elizabeth Meyer being the right age and the step-daughter of Johannes. The historian had never noticed this. He did have information as to who was mentioned in the will of Johannes and there was no Elizabeth mentioned (or even her children if she was deceased). We thought this pretty interesting. |
