I have had a few recent breakthroughs in my research on Smith-Schmidt ancestors for the 18th century which allow me to localize the search to the area around Lowhill Township in Lehigh County, more or less across the Lehigh River from Allen, Lehigh and Moore Townships in Northampton Co. where Henry Schmidt settled and lived between 1800 and 1830. Through baptism, marriage and death records for the Lowhill Reformed Church, the Jordan Reformed Church and the Weisenburg Church as well as a will left by his father I have been able to put together a skeleton picture of Henry's parents, brothers and sisters dating roughly 1760 to 1800. There is also on record a will for a Nicholas Schmidt in Lowhill Twp. who died in 1757, probably from an Indian attack during the French and Indian Wars. Does anyone have any further information on these Lowhill Township Schmidts or any of the other Schmidts (could be brothers?) who settled in Heidelberg (Christian Schmidt), Whitehall (George Schmidt) or Macungie (Melchoir Schmidt and others) Townships during the early and mid- 18th century?
