First thing to realize is that all water runs downhill. Grave Creek does not "run east" from the Ohio River; it delivers into the Ohio.

Several tributaries join, in the course of quite a distance, to become the main branch of Grave Creek that finally joins the Ohio.

If you go to the government geographic locations site at

http://geonames.usgs.gov

--search for Grave Creek, pick West Virginia from the dropdown list. Click on the search result for just Grave Creek (link is the name in left-hand column). You will get an information page, including at upper right a selection of different map types.

Pick the Terraserver DRG map, which is zoomable and topographic and it's pretty easy to navigate in any direction you wish. With this tool you can follow the tributaries of Grave Creek upstream in any direction you wish.
