It appears that the William Caldwell referred to in your reply concerning the 1880 census would be my Great Great Grandfather, William, father of John B. Caldwell, former Sheriff of Butler County, PA I show William being born in 1821 and dying in 1898. His wife, Mary Jane Stewart was his second of 3 wives. John B. (my Grandfather) was born to his first wife Sarah Jane Beatty. I would like to find out more about William - any idea where to search?
