John Clark (Jack)Okey was the son of Trevitt Weir Okey. (I am not sure of the spelling of the first names.) T.W. Okey was the son of John Waterman Okey, Chief Justice of the State of Ohio.
My grandfather was the art director, not the director of "It's a Wonderful Life." Frank Capra was the director. I have heard some negative things about Frank Capra--that he was a fascist sympathizer, stuff like that, but my grandfather and entire family thought he was a wonderful man. I was too little to have any recollections of his working on that movie although my mother (a war widow) and I were living with him at the time.
Some of his other more notable movies were the original "Cat People" (1942--I think) and the "Jungle Book" starring Sabu the Elephant Boy. He worked in London with Alex Korda for some years in the 1930s. Otherwise he worked in Hollywood from about 1913 until he retired in 1958. I sleep in the same bed he died in (early 1963). He was certainly the nearest thing I had to a father. A web search of his name will turn up lists of the movies he made. He was nominated for the Oscar two or three times but never got one. He blamed politics--he was very bombastic, undiplomatic and shot his mouth off too much, I fear.
