My runyon family came to california during the 1840s from what my g-grandparents called the "ohio river valley". They came by wagon with several other families. My g-grandfather's name was Leslie E. Runyon, and he was born in the late 1890's. He had a twin brother (who died during the flu epidemic along with many of the runyons) and an older sister, Lucia who lived until the early 1980's. Rumor has it that they lived in the Bakersfield area for awhile but moved from there to the foothills of the San Joaquin valley because "every time they put a plow in the dirt, they got oil, and there was only so much buggy wheel oil a family could use...". My gg-aunt Lucia Runyon spent many years on our family tree, traveling across the country and then to Europe, England, Holland and France completing our family tree back to the 14th century. She spoke with many Runyons all over the world, and visited grave yards, county registrars, etc. beginning in the 1960's and taking at least 10 years to complete it. After her death, a cousin asked to borrow the research, and won't give it back, or allow anyone to make copies. So, we are starting all over again. Does any of this family history sound familiar?
